About this page
I’ve started writing iPhone applications that tie into my whisky hobby. For now, this will serve as my info page for any applications I write.
Applications
Calculate Final ABV and number of drink units based on alcohol content, size of drink, and amount of water added. Sliders for quick adjustment of values and real-time update of results. I’ve finished this application and distributed it directly to a few people.
See a full overview with screenshots here.
Before adding it to the iTunes App Store, I need to figure out a name to use on the store, come up with a description and images for the marketing page, and decide how I’m going to handle support (just link to this page and have people email me? start up a forum?)
Update: Note the link in the side bar to my ABV Calculator spreadsheet. No iPhone required.
i would love to see an iPhone APP that could be used as a reference tool when “browsing” thru the finer liquor stores that carry a good collection of malts. “SINGLE MALT” would be a great name for it – now to the developer !!!!
Something like that is what got me started thinking about creating an iPhone application. The ABV calculator was a good warm-up app. For my next one, I’d like to put the Malt Maniac Matrix on my iPhone in a browsable, searchable, filterable format. Of course, unless I can get permission from them, I wouldn’t be able to share it with anybody.
There actually is an application like you’re describing out there right now called iWhiskey, with reviews of 600+ whiskies from Paul Pacult. I have no idea if it’s any good, or how well I agree/disagree with Mr. Pacult’s tastes. I guess I should just buy it and find out.
Thanks,
Jeff
10 bucks…? I’d rather carry Murray’s whisky bible around.
I’d love to build an app with whisky tasting notes in it – and in fact am *trying* to get that done as we speak!
Fingers crossed for us to get the project(s) that will allow this…
In the meantime, Jeff, if YOU would just review about 550 more whiskies, you could put out your OWN branded app for this purpose… I’ll help you try them!
Yeah…pretty expensive for an iPhone app.
That would be awesome if you can work on a whisky app as your day job! I’m having a hard time staying on track with iPhone development in my “spare” time. 🙂
[…] whisky and wants to regulate the ABV percentage of their favorite scotch (perhaps with the help of ScotchHobbyist’s App). It’s doubly cool because I don’t usually associate Glenfiddich with whiskies that […]
If you want to keep track of your own single malt collection and tasting notes, the iMalt app for the iPhone and the iPad is the best choice.
There’s an app called “iWhiskey” that is a compendium of 600+ of Paul Pacult’s Scotch, bourbon, rye, Canadian, and Irish whiskey reviews. It’s not up to the minute and it’s pretty expensive for an app (I think it’s $10) but it’s a fine group of reviews that you’ll always have with you in the liquor store. Paul Pacult is an excellent professional liquor critic.
