Are you definitely looking for small samples (which are relatively expensive on a per-ounce basis), or would something like a gift pack with 200ml bottles appeal to you? The Whisky Exchange has miniatures, as well as other types of gift packs like this one:

If you’re in the U.S., you might want to go to your local specialty shop to see if they have any gift packs for the Holiday season. I know Total Wine & More has some gift pack options right now.

I’d love to have the samples be a full 50ml like a standard miniature. I can turn the 50ml into two 25ml tastes over a couple of days, which gives me a better feel for the drink.

I do find the 30ml to be plenty for a single dram. Especially for a cask-strength malt. Maybe the thinking is that if you want to stretch it into two samples like I do with the 50ml miniatures, then you should buy two.

I can also see where they’re coming from in terms of having a limited number of samples available of these rare bottles. The nice thing about 30ml samples is that more of us can try something we might not otherwise ever experience.

Does the 30ml feel too small for you? I hesitated in ordering because I thought that it wouldn’t provide a “full” dram…
