Thanks for the feedback, Jacob. I believe I've heard that before about the 30...maybe on the Whisky Magazine forums. I could certainly see the 30 not quite being to some people's tastes (especially huge fans of Laph. 10), but it provides exactly the kind of sherry influence I love.

I could also imagine being less impressed with it when doing a comparison that includes a cask-strength expression with more kick. The 30 is definitely on the "polite" side. At an Ardbeg tasting, I was unimpressed with the Arigh Nam Beist compared to Uigeadail. Now, however, I wonder how I would feel about Beist if I tried it on its own.

I'd love to try the Laphroaig 25, but at $500, I think I need an opportunity to attend one of those tastings. However, we're not on the main scotch marketing circuit here in the Phoenix, AZ area.

Thanks,
Jeff

I was at a tasting a couple of weeks ago where we tasted the full Laphroaig lineup, including 25 and 30-year old. I actually preferred the 25 to the 30. The 30 tasted great but felt a little past its prime, buttressed by sherry. On the other hand, the 25 was ripe, flavorful, still powerful, and perhaps the best whisky I've ever tried!
